TO: Passionate Yoga Students
If you want to become a certified Gravity Yoga instructor and help students radically transform their flexibility and reduces stress, then I’m excited to introduce you to our up-coming teacher training program.
But what is Gravity Yoga? It’s a mat-based, targeted mobility training method that helps students with stiff backs, locked up hips, and tight hamstrings. These classes are hugely popular in my studios and all around the world because they deliver flexibility results quickly.
The 3 Pillars of Gravity Yoga:
- #1: Wet Noodle. Muscles stretch best when completely relaxed. So when you train for flexibility, you attempt to relax into the stretch as much as possible.
- #2: Whiskey Breathing 4:8. Inhale through your nose to the count of four, exhale to the count of eight. This breathing practice turns off the stretch reflex, stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system response, and relieves muscle tension.
- #3: Meet or Beat Your Hold Time. The gating factor for flexibility is time under passive tension (AKA how long you spend in these deep poses). The typical Gravity Yoga hold times are 2-5 minutes.

Next, try group classes. They are popular in studios around the world, but most studios don’t have qualified teachers. Enter: you and your unique service. Group classes are fun, challenging, and instant community builders.

The course leads you step-by-step through everything you need to know to start working professionally. You can get insurance, teach in gyms and yoga studios, and even set-up your own business after this course.

My “Stiff Guy” Story
I was a stiff office guy when I went to my first yoga class at age 23. When I bent forward, my hands only made it halfway down my shins. Backbends were out of the question and my hips felt like two blocks of ice.
When I sat on the floor, my back was hunched and my knees were way up off the ground. When I tried Wheel pose, it felt like my chest would explode.
It’s terrible when you feel trapped in your own body, so I went on a mission to find a solution.
My yoga teachers told me yoga was not about flexibility, but that was easy for them to say — they were already flexible. For me, yoga was about flexibility because I couldn’t do anything.
My yoga teachers were no help, so I sought out gymnasts, dancers, and acrobats for some guidance, and here’s what I learned:
Yes, you can increase your flexibility at any age
Flexibility gains do not happen without targeted training
Your current sports and exercise routines are probably making you tighter
I didn’t invent these theories. I discovered them from a handful of gymnastics and anatomy books, a super flexible yoga student named, Anthony I met in class, and through my own trial and error.
What matters to you is that this approach really works.
When I first started teaching this method in 2007, my colleagues mocked me. They told me no one would ever come to a yoga class that was all about flexibility, but here I am all these years later with more demand than I can even manage…
… and that’s why I’m recruiting teachers.
Flexibility training has never been more needed in the market. Here’s why.
Our modern lifestyles are making us stiff. We spend four hours a day hunched over our phones, six hours a day on the computer, and an hour a day in a car.
Pop fitness trends also make us stiff. CrossFit, SoulCycle, Orange Theory, and obstacle races will get you in great shape, but they make you stiff. As people flock to these fitness trends, they need help to balance the strength with mobility.
Older people are everywhere. The world’s population is aging fast and people are living longer than ever before. Average lifespan is 75+ in most countries, and older people want to move like they did in their younger years. They need your help.

How the Course Works
This is not a Netflix course where you just sit back, watch a video, and eat popcorn. This is a real-time, date-specific course, in which you’ll join live classes, engage with other students, and connect personally with me and the other trainers. Here’s how it works:
Practice + Study (2 hours daily). Set aside approximately two hours per day for study and practice. This can happen all in one session, or you can break it up into two or even four parts. It’s up to you. It’s alright if you miss a day, simply double up on another day to catch up.
eLearning Platform. You’ll be issued a login and password for our official eLearning platform where you’ll find pose-by-pose tutorials, setup and safety videos, checklists, flashcards, and more. This new and updated platform has five times the number of resources offered in any other course, and you get lifetime access!
Class Discussions. Our private Facebook group and Messenger Chat is where most of the discussions happen. We’ll share photos and videos of our practices, answer questions, and explore opportunities together. We are active in the group every single day.
Live Training Sessions. YOGABODY’s expert trainers and I will conduct training sessions via Facebook Live. We’ll field questions, demonstrate, and practice together. This is the next best thing to you and I being together in the studio.
Bonus Materials. New student forms, copy/paste promotional forms, business card templates, and more are all included in the program. We make it fast and easy to get started—a big part of the reason our graduates are doing so well.

eLearning & Home Study Overview
The training curriculum is designed to empower you with the anatomy, physiology, leadership, safety, and business skills needed to become a successful Gravity Yoga teacher. Course director, Lucas Rockwood, has been training professional instructors since 2006, and his approach is 100 percent focused on results. This is not a yoga retreat or an extended workshop. You’re here to learn to teach, and you’ll walk away as a qualified instructor.
Anatomy & Physiology: The movements and exercises of Gravity Yoga are atypical from most yoga classes, so you’ll explore the physiology and anatomy of what’s going on internally. This knowledge will give you a deeper understanding of your own body, and more importantly, the bodies of your clients. We’ll put particular emphasis on the hips, hamstrings, and spine.
Injury Management: Many people are drawn to Gravity Yoga because of back, knee, and other joint injuries. Deep stretching can help, but it can also harm, so you’ll learn how to responsibly navigate these tricky situations.
Sequencing & Class Planning: You’ll learn dozens of individual poses, but more importantly, you’ll learn how to structure and sequence both beginner and intermediate mobility classes. You’ll also learn how you can teach pose-by-pose workshop-style sessions, which are great for guest teaching gigs while traveling.
Leadership & Class Management: Leading a Gravity Yoga class is very different than most yoga classes because it’s slow, quiet, and intense. Leadership, word choice, body language, and demonstrations are of the utmost importance to keep students focused.
Marketing & Business: It’s great to learn a new skill, but if you don’t know how to market and sell your services, what’s the point? You’ll learn how to use common tools such as social media to attract and retain clients, charge for your services, and earn a great living. This is not a mindset module; we’ll teach you exactly what to do to get paying clients right away.
Gravity Yoga is one of the most effective mobility training methods in the world, with more than 40,000 students in 81 countries—but there are hardly any teachers. YOGABODY is excited to offer this Gravity Yoga Online Teacher Training Course where you’ll learn how to teach both group and private sessions for beginner and intermediate students.

What Students Are Saying…
“Right away I noticed a significant difference in the amount of energy I had” Before, during, and after a yoga class. I challenge every yogi/yogini to try this product. Yes, it’s THAT good!
– Tunde Martinez (yoga student)
“Thank you! I already notice a difference. I have knees and ankles that get very stiff and sore, and in fact, I had two knee surgeries more than ten years ago. I now notice less recurring stiffness and more range of motion. It feels like I need less warm-up time.
– Eric S. (yoga student)
“I’ve practiced yoga for almost three years and Ashtanga is my favorite practice. Though I have a pretty flexible body, I will sometimes get sore or pain in my hamstring. Also, I had a hard time doing Marichyasana D alone. I can do Marichyasana D right now, and I can feel that my backbends can be further deepened. Yet, I don’t feel sore, even after a hard practice. My body can recover very quickly! It’s amazing!
– Maisie Chan (yoga student)
“I have had huge flexibility gains in the 12 weeks that I have used this product and the Gravity Pose techniques. I have even been able to join a fitness center to do additional resistance training. I am 62, have had 2 serious spinal injuries at ages 16 and 28, and 7 spinal surgeries (3 lumbar, 4 cervical) in the past 44 years, along with several other invasive spinal procedures. Thanks to YOGABODY I’m doing better every day now!
– Luigi (yoga student)
“I do my gravity stretches every morning. I started practicing yoga about 20 years ago and I was quite flexible and bendy. Then I quit and lost a lot of movement. Some of the gravity poses help me feel like I still can move freely without feeling pain or tension. My work gives me neck, back and leg pain. After a couple of weeks of Gravity Yoga, I felt no pain in my neck, my back hurts less, and my legs have become lighter. Before it was quite difficult for me to walk. After approximately 100 meters I wanted to stop, to sit, to have a rest. Now I’m walking at least 7 km a day and feel good. Thanks a lot! I feel the life coming back to my body.
– Galina (yoga student)
“I have been using your ‘gravity’ poses to loosen my hips and they have done wonders for me. I can sit in lotus pose for about an hour now without tremendous discomfort.
– Stephen McConnell (yoga student)
“The stretches you laid out in your manual do wonders. Lately I’ve found that if I bike my butt off and break a good sweat then do your long holds, my bad hamstring seems to improve much faster.
– Kris Waldron (Bikram Yoga teacher)
“The Gravity poses are amazingly effective, after just one week I feel a difference!”
– Marianne Huus Mjøen (yoga student)
“I have to admit that this program greatly exceeded my expectations! I am 56 and I have been practicing yoga since I was 14. The problem is that I am (was) as stiff as a board and that yoga was always a struggle for me because I was always so far from the posture that I could not relax and benefit from it. I therefore had long periods of discouragement and I felt like I got nowhere, even after so many years. At least, that’s until I tried your Gravity poses. I think that a kind of miracle is starting to happen! Gravity poses work—and damn well! For the first time in my life, I see and feel progress! I obviously have to put in the work and allow time for more progress, but I trust the method and I know it is going to work wonders with a little patience, because I already feel quite different, I would say more ‘free.’ Great product, Lucas. God bless you!
– Paul Belizere (yoga student)
“In one month I lost 10 kg and now I can also do Chakrasana. I used to be very healthy naturally, but when I turned 23, I became very busy and concentrated on my studies, marriage and career. I stopped practicing every day until I could not even do Padahastasana. My weight jumped to 83 kg and I was very stiff. One day I found your site and read all your articles. It took two days, but I was convinced and changed my diet. I bought spirulina, MSM, chlorella, stopped eating fast food and started eating more raw vegetables like spinach, cabbage and also some plant foods. I was also a coffee boy before, but I cut it out. In one month I lost 10 kg and now I can also do Chakrasana—can you believe it? Thank you so much!
– Sanjeev (yoga student)
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you certainly can. Gravity Yoga is not easy, but it is simple. You can learn to master the fundamental principles at home.
No problem. You can double up your work on another day. The suggested pace is two hours per day, but you can arrange your schedule any way you like.
No, that wouldn’t be fair. We require an 85% or higher score on all exams and participation throughout the course. You have up to three tries on all exams, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. If you show up and give 100%, you will almost certainly be successful.
Gravity Yoga is not restorative yoga and it’s not gentle. It’s a very strong mobility training method. If you have serious injury, spinal fusion, knee problems, a hip replacement, or any other questionable condition, please make sure your doctor approves of practice.
You’ll study online with video-based classes. This is particularly effective for learning pose names, anatomical names, and basic sequences. We also have two live webinars during which you can ask questions, get answers, and prepare for the course.
As long as you have access to a phone or computer, you won’t have any problems. It’s a very low-tech course designed for everyone.
That’s fine! As long as you’re serious about learning, we’re happy to invite you to the course.
Gravity Yoga was developed in 2007 by Lucas Rockwood while living and teaching in Thailand. It is a targeted mobility training program practice with a yoga mat and some props – but nothing else. This approach is designed to supplement (not replace) any other yoga or exercise routine you might already be doing. It leans on traditional exercise physiology and nervous system response training.
Yin Yoga was originally developed by an American martial artist and yoga teacher named, Paulie Zink, and later popularized by teachers Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers. This slow, meditative practice has Taoist and Traditional Chinese Medicine roots and focuses on energy balance and meridians along with mobility.
Gravity Yoga was developed in 2007 by Lucas Rockwood while living and teaching in Thailand. This approach is designed to supplement (not replace) any other yoga or exercise routine you might already be doing. Gravity Yoga consists of three basic principles (1) Wet noodle, (2) Nose-to-mouth breathing 4:8, and (3) Meet or beat your hold times.
The “gravity” name was chosen because students do not use external force to achieve poses, they allow gravity to do all the world.
AntiGravity® Yoga is an inversion sling yoga style and brand created by New York City performer and teacher Christopher Harrison. As the name suggests, students defy gravity by hanging upside down.
NOTE: AntiGravity® is not owned, operated, or affiliated with YOGABODY. They manufacture the Yoga Trapeze® which is a somewhat similar inversion yoga device with no commercial or personal connection.
Questions are great. Just ask! This is an at-home course, but it includes real-time interactions, so you can ask questions, get help, and talk with Lucas and the training team throughout the course.
