The 3 Pillars of Gravity Yoga:
- #1: Wet Noodle. Muscles stretch best when completely relaxed. So when you train for flexibility, you attempt to relax into the stretch as much as possible.
- #2: Whiskey Breathing 4:8. Inhale through your nose to the count of four, exhale to the count of eight. This breathing practice turns off the stretch reflex, stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system response, and relieves muscle tension.
- #3: Meet or Beat Your Hold Time. The gating factor for flexibility is time under passive tension (AKA how long you spend in these deep poses). The typical Gravity Yoga hold times are 2-5 minutes.

My “Stiff Guy” Story
I was a stiff office guy when I went to my first yoga class at age 23. When I bent forward, my hands only made it halfway down my shins. Backbends were out of the question and my hips felt like two blocks of ice.
When I sat on the floor, my back was hunched and my knees were way up off the ground. When I tried Wheel pose, it felt like my chest would explode.
It’s terrible when you feel trapped in your own body, so I went on a mission to find a solution.
My yoga teachers told me yoga was not about flexibility, but that was easy for them to say — they were already flexible. For me, yoga was about flexibility because I couldn’t do anything.
My yoga teachers were no help, so I sought out gymnasts, dancers, and acrobats for some guidance, and here’s what I learned:

I didn’t invent these theories. I discovered them from a handful of gymnastics and anatomy books, a super flexible yoga student named, Anthony I met in class, and through my own trial and error.

When I first started teaching this method in 2007, my colleagues mocked me. They told me no one would ever come to a yoga class that was all about flexibility, but here I am all these years later with more demand than I can even manage…

Our modern lifestyles are making us stiff. We spend four hours a day hunched over our phones, six hours a day on the computer, and an hour a day in a car.
Pop fitness trends also make us stiff. CrossFit, SoulCycle, Orange Theory, and obstacle races will get you in great shape, but they make you stiff. As people flock to these fitness trends, they need help to balance the strength with mobility.

How the Course Works
This is not a Netflix course where you just sit back, watch a video, and eat popcorn. This is a real-time, date-specific course, in which you’ll join live classes, engage with other students, and connect personally with me and the other trainers. Here’s how it works:
Practice + Study (2 hours daily). Set aside approximately two hours per day for study and practice. This can happen all in one session, or you can break it up into two or even four parts. It’s up to you. It’s alright if you miss a day, simply double up on another day to catch up.
eLearning Platform. You’ll be issued a login and password for our official eLearning platform where you’ll find pose-by-pose tutorials, setup and safety videos, checklists, flashcards, and more. This new and updated platform has five times the number of resources offered in any other course, and you get lifetime access!
Class Discussions. Our private Facebook group and Messenger Chat is where most of the discussions happen. We’ll share photos and videos of our practices, answer questions, and explore opportunities together. We are active in the group every single day.
Live Training Sessions. YOGABODY’s expert trainers and I will conduct training sessions via Facebook Live. We’ll field questions, demonstrate, and practice together. This is the next best thing to you and I being together in the studio.

Lucas Rockwood | Master Trainer & Director (E-RYT, YACEP)
Lucas is an internationally-renowned yoga trainer, TEDx Speaker, podcaster, writer, and entrepreneur. His early yoga and meditation teachers include Sri K.
Pattabhi Jois, Paul Dallaghan, Alex Medin, Gabriel Cousens MD, and SN Goenka. Lucas left the USA in 2003 and traveled and taught extensively before making Barcelona, Spain his home base. In a previous life, he worked in theater, publishing, and as a vegan chef and nutritional coach. He’s the father of three international kids and remains as passionate about yoga as when he first began practicing in 2002.
YOGA STUDIOS (learn more). Lucas opened his first studio (and restaurant) in Koh Samui, Thailand in 2006 and franchised a second location in 2011 in Amsterdam. His newest studio group, YOGABODY Fitness, launched in 2012 and is the largest and most-influential in Spain with daily classes, workshops, and international training programs.

Camilo enrolled in his first yoga training course to deepen his practice, but he fell in love with teaching and made a quick career change. Camilo joined the Barcelona YOGABODY team in 2015 and immediately became involved in the management of sequence development, course planning, and new teacher mentorship. The training curriculum is designed to empower you with the anatomy, physiology, leadership, safety, and business skills needed to become a successful Gravity Yoga teacher. Course director, Lucas Rockwood, has been training professional instructors since 2006, and his approach is 100 percent focused on results. This is not a yoga retreat or an extended workshop. You’re here to learn to teach, and you’ll walk away as a qualified instructor.
Anatomy & Physiology: The movements and exercises of Gravity Yoga are atypical from most yoga classes, so you’ll explore the physiology and anatomy of what’s going on internally. This knowledge will give you a deeper understanding of your own body, and more importantly, the bodies of your clients. We’ll put particular emphasis on the hips, hamstrings, and spine.
Injury Management: Many people are drawn to Gravity Yoga because of back, knee, and other joint injuries. Deep stretching can help, but it can also harm, so you’ll learn how to responsibly navigate these tricky situations.
Sequencing & Class Planning: You’ll learn dozens of individual poses, but more importantly, you’ll learn how to structure and sequence both beginner and intermediate mobility classes. You’ll also learn how you can teach pose-by-pose workshop-style sessions, which are great for guest teaching gigs while traveling.
Leadership & Class Management: Leading a Gravity Yoga class is very different than most yoga classes because it’s slow, quiet, and intense. Leadership, word choice, body language, and demonstrations are of the utmost importance to keep students focused.
Marketing & Business: It’s great to learn a new skill, but if you don’t know how to market and sell your services, what’s the point? You’ll learn how to use common tools such as social media to attract and retain clients, charge for your services, and earn a great living. This is not a mindset module; we’ll teach you exactly what to do to get paying clients right away.

Yes, you certainly can. Gravity Yoga is not easy, but it is simple. You can learn to master the fundamental principles at home.
No problem. You can double up your work on another day. The suggested pace is two hours per day, but you can arrange your schedule any way you like.
No, that wouldn’t be fair. We require an 85% or higher score on all exams and participation throughout the course. You have up to three tries on all exams, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. If you show up and give 100%, you will almost certainly be successful.
Gravity Yoga is not restorative yoga and it’s not gentle. It’s a very strong mobility training method. If you have serious injury, spinal fusion, knee problems, a hip replacement, or any other questionable condition, please make sure your doctor approves of practice.
You’ll study online with video-based classes. This is particularly effective for learning pose names, anatomical names, and basic sequences. We also have two live webinars during which you can ask questions, get answers, and prepare for the course.
As long as you have access to a phone or computer, you won’t have any problems. It’s a very low-tech course designed for everyone.

Gravity Yoga was developed in 2007 by Lucas Rockwood while living and teaching in Thailand. It is a targeted mobility training program practice with a yoga mat and some props – but nothing else. This approach is designed to supplement (not replace) any other yoga or exercise routine you might already be doing. It leans on traditional exercise physiology and nervous system response training.
Yin Yoga was originally developed by an American martial artist and yoga teacher named, Paulie Zink, and later popularized by teachers Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers. This slow, meditative practice has Taoist and Traditional Chinese Medicine roots and focuses on energy balance and meridians along with mobility.
