TO: Passionate Yoga Students
If you want to become a certified Gravity Yoga instructor and help students radically transform their flexibility and reduces stress, then I’m excited to introduce you to our up-coming teacher training program.
But what is Gravity Yoga? It’s a mat-based, targeted mobility training method that helps students with stiff backs, locked up hips, and tight hamstrings. These classes are hugely popular in my studios and all around the world because they deliver flexibility results quickly.
The 3 Pillars of Gravity Yoga:
- #1: Wet Noodle. Muscles stretch best when completely relaxed. So when you train for flexibility, you attempt to relax into the stretch as much as possible.
- #2: Whiskey Breathing 4:8. Inhale through your nose to the count of four, exhale to the count of eight. This breathing practice turns off the stretch reflex, stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system response, and relieves muscle tension.
- #3: Meet or Beat Your Hold Time. The gating factor for flexibility is time under passive tension (AKA how long you spend in these deep poses). The typical Gravity Yoga hold times are 2-5 minutes.

3 Primary Teaching Opportunities
First, work with private clients. It’s a great way to create individualized, solution-oriented sessions. Private clients offer you a flexible schedule, great pay, and the opportunity to impact your students’ lives in a big way.
Next, try group classes. They are popular in studios around the world, but most studios don’t have qualified teachers. Enter: you and your unique service. Group classes are fun, challenging, and instant community builders.

Not Yet a Yoga Teacher?
No problem! The vast majority of trainees in this program have little-to-no background in yoga or group fitness training. The course leads you step-by-step through everything you need to know to start working professionally. You can get insurance, teach in gyms and yoga studios, and even set-up your own business after this course.
25-Hour Yoga Alliance Certificate
It’s possible to start teaching immediately without any additional training. We currently have instructors in 21 countries (and counting), and the demand for teachers far outreaches the current supply. So it’s a great time to get trained.
This course is registered with both Yoga Alliance Continuing Education (CE) and the American Council on Exercise (ACE). By successfully graduating, you’ll be qualified at the 25-hour academic level for the official Gravity Yoga Teacher Training.

My “Stiff Guy” Story
I was a stiff office guy when I went to my first yoga class at age 23. When I bent forward, my hands only made it halfway down my shins. Backbends were out of the question and my hips felt like two blocks of ice.
When I sat on the floor, my back was hunched and my knees were way up off the ground. When I tried Wheel pose, it felt like my chest would explode.
It’s terrible when you feel trapped in your own body, so I went on a mission to find a solution.
My yoga teachers told me yoga was not about flexibility, but that was easy for them to say — they were already flexible. For me, yoga was about flexibility because I couldn’t do anything.
My yoga teachers were no help, so I sought out gymnasts, dancers, and acrobats for some guidance, and here’s what I learned:
Yes, you can increase your flexibility at any age
Flexibility gains do not happen without targeted training
Your current sports and exercise routines are probably making you tighter
I didn’t invent these theories. I discovered them from a handful of gymnastics and anatomy books, a super flexible yoga student named, Anthony I met in class, and through my own trial and error.
What matters to you is that this approach really works.
When I first started teaching this method in 2007, my colleagues mocked me. They told me no one would ever come to a yoga class that was all about flexibility, but here I am all these years later with more demand than I can even manage…
… and that’s why I’m recruiting teachers.
Flexibility training has never been more needed in the market. Here’s why.
Our modern lifestyles are making us stiff. We spend four hours a day hunched over our phones, six hours a day on the computer, and an hour a day in a car.
Pop fitness trends also make us stiff. CrossFit, SoulCycle, Orange Theory, and obstacle races will get you in great shape, but they make you stiff. As people flock to these fitness trends, they need help to balance the strength with mobility.
Older people are everywhere. The world’s population is aging fast and people are living longer than ever before. Average lifespan is 75+ in most countries, and older people want to move like they did in their younger years. They need your help.

How the Course Works
This is not a Netflix course where you just sit back, watch a video, and eat popcorn. This is a real-time, date-specific course, in which you’ll join live classes, engage with other students, and connect personally with me and the other trainers. Here’s how it works:
Practice + Study (2 hours daily). Set aside approximately two hours per day for study and practice. This can happen all in one session, or you can break it up into two or even four parts. It’s up to you. It’s alright if you miss a day, simply double up on another day to catch up.
eLearning Platform. You’ll be issued a login and password for our official eLearning platform where you’ll find pose-by-pose tutorials, setup and safety videos, checklists, flashcards, and more. This new and updated platform has five times the number of resources offered in any other course, and you get lifetime access!
Class Discussions. Our private Facebook group and Messenger Chat is where most of the discussions happen. We’ll share photos and videos of our practices, answer questions, and explore opportunities together. We are active in the group every single day.
Live Training Sessions. YOGABODY’s expert trainers and I will conduct training sessions via Facebook Live. We’ll field questions, demonstrate, and practice together. This is the next best thing to you and I being together in the studio.
Bonus Materials. New student forms, copy/paste promotional forms, business card templates, and more are all included in the program. We make it fast and easy to get started—a big part of the reason our graduates are doing so well.

eLearning & Home Study Overview
The training curriculum is designed to empower you with the anatomy, physiology, leadership, safety, and business skills needed to become a successful Gravity Yoga teacher. Course director, Lucas Rockwood, has been training professional instructors since 2006, and his approach is 100 percent focused on results. This is not a yoga retreat or an extended workshop. You’re here to learn to teach, and you’ll walk away as a qualified instructor.
Anatomy & Physiology: The movements and exercises of Gravity Yoga are atypical from most yoga classes, so you’ll explore the physiology and anatomy of what’s going on internally. This knowledge will give you a deeper understanding of your own body, and more importantly, the bodies of your clients. We’ll put particular emphasis on the hips, hamstrings, and spine.
Injury Management: Many people are drawn to Gravity Yoga because of back, knee, and other joint injuries. Deep stretching can help, but it can also harm, so you’ll learn how to responsibly navigate these tricky situations.
Sequencing & Class Planning: You’ll learn dozens of individual poses, but more importantly, you’ll learn how to structure and sequence both beginner and intermediate mobility classes. You’ll also learn how you can teach pose-by-pose workshop-style sessions, which are great for guest teaching gigs while traveling.
Leadership & Class Management: Leading a Gravity Yoga class is very different than most yoga classes because it’s slow, quiet, and intense. Leadership, word choice, body language, and demonstrations are of the utmost importance to keep students focused.
Marketing & Business: It’s great to learn a new skill, but if you don’t know how to market and sell your services, what’s the point? You’ll learn how to use common tools such as social media to attract and retain clients, charge for your services, and earn a great living. This is not a mindset module; we’ll teach you exactly what to do to get paying clients right away.
Gravity Yoga is one of the most effective mobility training methods in the world, with more than 40,000 students in 81 countries—but there are hardly any teachers. YOGABODY is excited to offer this Gravity Yoga Online Teacher Training Course where you’ll learn how to teach both group and private sessions for beginner and intermediate students.

What Students Are Saying…
“My level of flexibility and body control has increased dramatically during these past weeks.” Gravity Yoga is for sure a daily practice now – and I’m hoping to share it with students!
– Nadja Maria
“The Gravity Yoga Training was exceptional—detailed, interactive and encouraging.” The training changed my understanding of flexibility training, how I can use this for myself and how I can share this with others as a teacher. Understanding the science is crucial to develop skill and confidence with authenticity as a teacher. The training brings that. Lucas is an amazing teacher, and his ability to share knowledge and experience with trainees brings a deeper level to the training. Questions were always accepted and addressed for all the students keen to clarify information or to know more.
– Helen Machen-Pearce
“My brother-in-law was involved in a car accident 1.5 years ago, fracturing his neck and resulting in becoming a quadriplegic. I became a certified personal trainer to have more knowledge in helping with his rehab (I am doing all his rehab).” When I saw Gravity Yoga on FB I checked into it because his posture is terrible from sitting 90% of the time, making it difficult to learn how to stand and proper walking gait. I feel this course has and will help tremendously in getting his mobility back. Super excited to do Gravity yoga on such a challenging individual!
– Tricia Downing
“I am very excited to practice gravity yoga and bring it into my community where there isn’t anything like this.”
– Jessica Gawel
“Over the Gravity Yoga TT I felt some progress, especially in my hips.” I am an actress and doing musical theatre, so I have a background in dance. But I always struggled with flexibility. I did yoga for 10 years. A few years ago I started pole dancing and I see improvements, but it’s coming very slow. I am really looking forward to the next weeks and months.
“The experience was great.” We were fully immersed at times. Someday I’d like to go to Barcelona for training. I bet there is nothing like it.
– Lydia Vazquez
“This is my third YTT with YOGABODY and I’m already looking forward to the Breath Coach Training.” I hope a Wonder Wheel Training could also be offered. If you’re selling it, I’m buying. Thank you so much for your consistent enthusiasm, humor and sharing the solid expertise that, IMHO, is pretty darn bullet-proof.
“I carry long term back pain from an accident in 2015. I’ve been training to run the toughest 5 back to back marathons in 5 days, as I refuse to let my injury become a limitation.” I want to prove that we can achieve anything we put our minds to, with grit and determination. Opening my hips up has got rid of the hip pain I had and helped me get through my long mileage sessions. My girlfriend Jo did the Yoga Trapeze course and it opened my eyes to what you guys do. She told me about Gravity Yoga and I was hooked.
– Maz Berry
“Flexibility seems to be a huge issue for all of my clients, and I feel much better equipped, after taking this class, to provide better services for them.” I retired 6 months ago from over 30 years working in healthcare. I have been studying yoga for the past 4 years and have been teaching for 2 years in my own rented studio space. I’ve expanded to teaching at a local gym one night a week, and I think Gravity Yoga would be a great addition there. I am also studying Thai Yoga and provide personal sessions. Flexibility seems to be a huge issue for all of my clients, and I feel much better equipped, after taking this class, to provide better services for them.
– Elisabeth Swanson
“I am a mom of 3, living in France and working as a yoga teacher.” I offer private classes in my home, including Yoga Trapeze. Although I have always considered myself to be flexible, I have very tight hips and this process has really been a great addition to my personal practice. The experience with the training has been great and engaging. I loved that it was very interactive and particularly enjoyed all the facebook lives, the question/answer on the page and the e-learning center, which is a treasure trove of information.
“I saw and felt great flexibility gains in my body after just 3 days of this gravity yoga training, by the end of the 10 days I was hooked.” I plan to do this on a regular basis and share this with my students. I like Lucas’ teaching style which is clear and engaging. He makes it easy to retain the valuable material he presents and gives us good pointers for improving our own teaching.
– Carla Fountain
“I loved this course and as usual it challenged me and often times kicked my butt.” I have a rotated femur on the right leg (at the hip socket) and one of my horses fell on me a year ago and dislocated my left knee. The Yoga Trapeze training I took challenged the knee issue. This course challenged my right hip. All good for me. As a massage therapist for 26 years, I am in tune with my body and backed off where needed.
– Deborah Henne
“I’ve found Yoga Teacher’s College on Facebook with an ad. I clicked, did my first course (Yoga Trapeze), liked it so much that I decided to take them all.” All those available online. I’m already an aerial yoga and yoga teacher but these courses are awesome and I get to learn a lot. Lucas is a great teacher. Thank you!
– Raquel Devillé
“As an all-around physical practitioner (weights, yoga, cardio, etc.), I found that this training provided the third leg of the stool with strength and endurance.” As a yoga teacher, I found the non-emphasis on spiritual yoga components, the no-jargon approach, refreshing and a relief as the course was time-limited. I don’t need more lectures on the 8 limbs. I also realized how accessible this practice is to anyone without any yoga experience. I have experience with yin yoga, and gravity yoga took me beyond what I had with yin.
“I owe my mobility, almost pain-free living, and growing business to YOGABODY and Lucas Rockwood.” Four years ago, when I purchased my first Yoga Trapeze, I was sleeping maybe 2-3 hours a night and in constant pain all day long post a failed back surgery. Inversion reduced pain, slowly but surely. eLearning, immersion teaching, and participating in the YOGABODY online communities turned me into a non-stop investigating sleuth discovering different ways to move and strengthen my body, and the support from my ever-growing YB family and my newfound confidence from this incredible journey has helped me create a business I am passionate about and a life I absolutely love! P.S. I am a much improved, happier, mom of five and wife to my husband of 27+ years! Thank you!
– Paula Davis
“Lucas is an amazing teacher and coach and I’ve learned so much in the process.” After many injuries over the years, I’ve always tried to strengthen my muscles and also become flexible but then I’d have another injury and each time it was a setback. I have wanted to become more flexible in the past few years and tried many different ways to do so but I hit a plateau each time and felt like giving up until I found YOGABODY online and thought I’ll give it a go! The Gravity Yoga ® Teacher Training course has easy to learn poses and the breathing technique helps me sleep deeply each night, I feel so refreshed each day and the poses can be done from 15 minutes up to 1 hour per day, which is perfect for those that have a busy schedule. This is definitely well worth trying if you want to become flexible and more mobile and the bonus is you sleep better, it’s got my recommendation!
– Ruth Lawlor
“It was hard the first few days, having to squeeze the training into my crazy busy schedule but once I gained momentum, it became fairly easy not to mention enjoyable.” I find Lucas’ teaching method very practical and easy to integrate into real-life scenarios.
– Cecille O.G.
“It’s the third online training I took with YOGABODY and I have always been very happy with them.” You can see improvements in the programs so the feedbacks are taken into consideration (and necessary from the students). I love YB trainings and it’s not the last one I have done for sure.
– Sarah Bauduin
“Great insights and a very knowledgeable teacher, who focuses on the important points and presents the facts in a very agreeable way, relaxed, yet to the point.” The knowledge, practical tips, and stories from an experienced teacher and business owner gave me lots of knowledge and a very good basis to start teaching.
“It was an excellent course covering a lot and super well communicated.” My very first yoga teacher training with Lucas Rockwood and hopefully not the last! I feel lucky to have had this opportunity to soak in knowledge from him.
– Maria Morel Horvathova
“I signed up for two certifications with YOGABODY/Yoga Teachers College already.” On both occasions, I never got bored with the practice and lectures. Both are consistently informative and teaches you in a way that you will really absorb the information. It’s a great balance of theoretical and practical knowledge. I love the eLearning platform and structure, I love the Facebook page interaction, I love Lucas’ lectures and how he really paid attention to every single comment and every single question he got asked by the students. It is very personalized and you feel as if it’s an in-person course. I am very much encouraged to take more certifications perhaps an in-person course next year. I do like the fact that it’s not one of those yoga certifications that really focuses on adding value to other students instead of chanting and memorizing the names of the poses in a different language.
– Jardine Ong
“Thanks to this course I’ve been able to overcome one of my life’s hurdles.” I’m a very shy person but I love to help other people, and with this course, I‘m able to take my first step towards one of my dreams; teach and help others help themselves (while also helping myself). Thank you to this wonderful team.
– Sarah Storey
“This little journey has been quick, but so fruitful.” I was amazed by the consistency and knowledge I got from the program in such a short time span. And the way the program is set allows you to enter and finish smoothly—very well organized for students to learn and still feel motivated along the way!
“The mix between daily practices, live FB teaching, and the online platform made it very easy to follow.” Lucas is an outstanding teacher who makes everything very apprehensible. What really made a difference for me is all the interesting and useful business information (templates, pricing info, etc) we received. I started this course not knowing how or even if I was going to integrate this into my current offering, but now I know exactly what to do.
– Mireille Termolle
“Lucas and his team were available to answer any and all questions about the course.” The course information was rich with straightforward and easy-to-grasp information. Engaging with others around the world was also pretty amazing.
– Sherrell Moore-Tucker
“I found the Gravity Yoga class to be enthusiastic, organized, informative, efficient and sensible, and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn how to get paid for helping people become more mobile and flexible.” Repeating the 3 Gravity Yoga sessions throughout the class was helpful in embedding the movements and pace, as well as showing how to incorporate the 4:8 breathing and distraction techniques.
– Lana Joiner
“I entered as a student and suddenly became a teacher!” Lucas opened the venue to think about offering Targeted Mobility Training which I recognize is so very needed in many communities. I’m open to what develops.
– Narjis (heidi)
“I’ve always been super tight.” I have run a lot in the past but currently do kickboxing 2-3 times a week, HIIT workouts 1-2 times a week, and weight training a couple of times a week. I’ve always tried to balance my workouts to include what I thought of as flexibility training: ie other yoga classes, stretching, etc. However, I haven’t seen a lot of flexibility gains. I finally had moderate success with Pilates but still can’t touch the floor regularly (only after an hour of class) and I still have tight shoulders. During this course, I realized just how tight I am everywhere (not just my hamstrings and shoulders). I saw pretty significant improvement in my quads over the 2 weeks and did see some improvement in my hamstrings, shoulders, and ankles but they still have a long way to go. At least now I have the tools to keep working at it. I also hope to be able to help others by incorporating these principles into my personal training.
– Kimberly Fears
“A changed work situation had me quit yoga practice for 3 years. I became stiff and achy from hours of daily commutes and work stress.” After that, I picked up yoga practice again but was very frustrated that I had lost all flexibility. I joined YOGABODY’s hip-opening and backbend challenges and couldn’t believe how fast I gained mobility. Flexibility progressed. The slow breathing calmed my mind. My first-hand experience with the loss of mobility and reversing it in my late 50s made me realize its importance and impact on quality of life. That’s why I wanted to teach it! Especially to my age group. For a happy healthy long life.
– Andrea Hadek
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you certainly can. Gravity Yoga is not easy, but it is simple. You can learn to master the fundamental principles at home.
No problem. You can double up your work on another day. The suggested pace is two hours per day, but you can arrange your schedule any way you like.
No, that wouldn’t be fair. We require an 85% or higher score on all exams and participation throughout the course. You have up to three tries on all exams, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. If you show up and give 100%, you will almost certainly be successful.
Gravity Yoga is not restorative yoga and it’s not gentle. It’s a very strong mobility training method. If you have serious injury, spinal fusion, knee problems, a hip replacement, or any other questionable condition, please make sure your doctor approves of practice.
You’ll study online with video-based classes. This is particularly effective for learning pose names, anatomical names, and basic sequences. We also have two live webinars during which you can ask questions, get answers, and prepare for the course.
As long as you have access to a phone or computer, you won’t have any problems. It’s a very low-tech course designed for everyone.
That’s fine! As long as you’re serious about learning, we’re happy to invite you to the course.
Gravity Yoga was developed in 2007 by Lucas Rockwood while living and teaching in Thailand. It is a targeted mobility training program practice with a yoga mat and some props – but nothing else. This approach is designed to supplement (not replace) any other yoga or exercise routine you might already be doing. It leans on traditional exercise physiology and nervous system response training.
Yin Yoga was originally developed by an American martial artist and yoga teacher named, Paulie Zink, and later popularized by teachers Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers. This slow, meditative practice has Taoist and Traditional Chinese Medicine roots and focuses on energy balance and meridians along with mobility.
Gravity Yoga was developed in 2007 by Lucas Rockwood while living and teaching in Thailand. This approach is designed to supplement (not replace) any other yoga or exercise routine you might already be doing. Gravity Yoga consists of three basic principles (1) Wet noodle, (2) Nose-to-mouth breathing 4:8, and (3) Meet or beat your hold times.
The “gravity” name was chosen because students do not use external force to achieve poses, they allow gravity to do all the world.
AntiGravity® Yoga is an inversion sling yoga style and brand created by New York City performer and teacher Christopher Harrison. As the name suggests, students defy gravity by hanging upside down.
NOTE: AntiGravity® is not owned, operated, or affiliated with YOGABODY. They manufacture the Yoga Trapeze® which is a somewhat similar inversion yoga device with no commercial or personal connection.
Questions are great. Just ask! This is an at-home course, but it includes real-time interactions, so you can ask questions, get help, and talk with Lucas and the training team throughout the course.
